neoclassical (neoclassic)

A style of drama popular in the eighteenth century. Neoclassical plays respect the unities of time and place in that they transpire over the course of a few hours and within a specific location. Rather than featuring kings and queens, these plays dramatise the trials and tribulations of ordinary characters who use realistic dialogue. Neoclassical dramas focus on one issue and often carry a moral lesson about this issue, frequently delivered through the use of comedy or social satire.
