This is a three-act comedia.
The action takes place in four locations, all of which could be quite simply represented: Alonso’s house; the street; inside Pedro’s house where Beatriz and Leonor live; and a different street. Alonso and Moscatel hide in a china cupboard, from which the sounds of breaking china are heard. They also jump off the balcony to the street below, although this need not be seen onstage. There are two letters, a mirror, gloves, a candlestick, ribbon and a piece of jewellery containing a diamond (see Calderón 1986: xxvi-xxvii).
