The play is divided into a Prologue and three parts running across two acts. Act 1 is separated into Part One and Part Two. Part One has four short scenes and Part Two has ten scenes. Part Three takes up the entirety of act 2, and is divided into nine scenes.
The action takes place in early seventeenth-century Italy. Scenes take place inside and outside the local inn and also at Leandro’s and Crispin’s house. There are additional scenes in Doña Sirena’s garden at night.
