La sibila Casandra (1513), Gil Vicente

Scene

It’s a short, one-act auto (a religious play designed for celebrating a religious holiday at court).

Staging

Solomon and the prophets are dressed as shepherds; Cassandra and the sibyls are dressed as shepherdesses. There is a lot of singing and dancing. There is a discovery-space scene in which angels herald the birth of Christ and the Nativity scene is revealed; all the prophets adore the Christ-child and his mother Mary at the manger.
