Set against the backdrop of Pinochet’s privatisation of public holdings, the characters of Marta and Emilio are two displaced labourers who find themselves on a wasteland on the outskirts of the city, Emilio having pulled Marta out of the canal and saved her from drowning. They are strangers to one another and have nothing, nobody and no home, and yet Radrigán reveals to us the depth of their human dignity.
