María del Puerto Gómez Corredera notes that while the director’s role as ‘The Other’ was not particularly well-received, the actresses performing the roles of Damiana and the Housekeeper were praised for their work. The simple but realistic staging of the production was also commended for conveying effectively the mysterious atmosphere of the play (2007: 371).

In this production the director, Luis Arata, performed the role of The Other.
The oppositional personalities of Laura (passive) and Damiana (aggressive) were emphasised in this production through the characters’ costume: one woman was dressed in white, the other in black (Gómez Corredera 2007: 371).

This production was enormously successful and won a number of awards, including one for best director.
A huge mirror covered the back of the stage so that the audience could see their own reflection in it and thus participate in the play's doubling theme (Gómez Corredera 2006: 29).
Javier Vidal changed the epilogue in this production by featuring only the Housekeeper on stage who delivers a monologue (Gómez Corredera 2006: 30).
